We selected the Romanza from previous reviews, and it was a nice hotel. The guests were surprisingly almost totally British. The reason for the surprise was our first morning walk to the restaurant for breakfast, as we walked passed the pool every sun lounger had a towel on it but only two had bodies on them. I thought the Germans had landed ! This was the practice throughout our week, and on the occassions that we did find room at the pool, it was annoying to see towel laden sun loungers vacant for hours. There were couples and families that had been returning for over 8 years, so this practice was accepted.
Good bits
Views - from the room, pool, and restaurant, being on top of a steep hill on the hill side looking onto the sea.
Staff - All extremely friendly and helpful
Room - family room was very clean and split into two with a seaside balcony running along both bedrooms, and a fridge. My wife found the bed too firm.Air con was available at 5 euros per night, which we paid in advance but did not need every night. Towels were changed frequently.
Restaurant- Good atmosphere and good food, mainly used by residents because of where the hotel was situated outside of the resort and on top of a hill.
Bar- Drinks were a good price and there was a pool table & board games available with a 24 hour tv and views over the sea.
Beach - shallow and not crowded, and very clean and very long (and a nudist section )
Resort - small and not too busy, with enough restaurants to visit, with variety of old and new.
Bad bits
Ensuite - “wet room” was small and the shower was not great
Breakfast - very limited, coissants, eggs (boiled, fried, or scrambled) Cornflakes or Muesli. You could get bacon etc at an extra cost, but we were looking forward to a mediteranean style.
Smokers- unfortunately we are spoilt in Britain, but this hotel was full of British, and some smoked at breakfast, including one man who had a pipe permanently on the go all day. No consideration !
Path to the beach - This became hard work as it zigzagged from the hotel to the beach and was very steep. Some 400 steps.
Restaurant reommendations, the Romanza, Nafsika hotel, and Waves on the beach, (if you ignore the rude head waiter) have dinner here and watch the sun go down.

Disliked — breakfast

We have just returned from a week at the ROMANZA-I cannot sing its praises highly enough. The rooms were clean and comfortable, all with a balcony and all overlooking the sea.
The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food in the restaurant was great, and reasonably priced, with plenty of Greek dishes to try out. The only disadvantage was that the hotel was at the top of the hill leading out of town-it was about 1 km up a fairly steep hill, although even for someone as lazy as me, the walk was not too arduous and by the end of the week we were practically running up (OK, perhaps not!). The town has plenty of restaurants and shops, good supermarkets and the most fantastic beach.
Liked — the views from the top of the hill
Disliked — the road up the hill

We dont normally return to the same place but enjoyed our first holiday in 2007 so much, we decided to return this year.
We were not disappointed as we were met with the same fantastic hospitality, excellent food, great staff and great weather.
We met unknowingly with people from the year before and really enjoyed their company and were really welcomed with open arms from the staff who remembered us from 2007.
The hotel excels in customer service, which is, we believe the key to their success. Thanks to each and every one of the team at the Romanza for another great holiday, your great reviews are fully justified.
Liked — Very clean and not as sparce as most greek hotels

Extremely friendly staff. Food in Hotel Restaurant was delicious, so nice in fact we ate there every evening for fear of being disappointed by trying another restaurant! Also saw the sunset each evening whilst having dinner, which was lovely to watch. A word of caution, in the evening whilst eating on the terrace there were quite a few mosquitoes around, so suggest bringing a really good repellant. It is very quiet and relaxing. Room comfortable with fabulous view of beach and sunsets. Needed air conditioning each night as too hot to sleep, hotel charged 5EUROS a night to use it.
The fact the hotel was on the top of the hill we felt was an advantage because although the weather was extremely hot, we had a lovely breeze while sitting by the pool. The pool was clean and plenty of sunbeds. The steep hill down to the beach was lots of fun, as you could go straight down in swimming costume, swim into the sea and straight back up the hill to hotel.
Car hire easy, 70EUROS for 2 days, the car was delivered and picked up at the hotel. Roads are very narrow and constantly up and down steep hills, saw some shocking driving by locals and tourists, so drive slowly, not for the faint hearted! But well worth the experience if you are feeling brave.
On the negative side, we thought the breakfast was disappointing, ok if you like eggs, but very limited if you don’t. Suggest that a choice of fruit and some Greek yoghurt would make it more appealing.
The people at the hotel, car hire and shops in San Stefanos could not have been more helpful and friendly, we had a great time and we would definately recommend this hotel.
